Risk & Liquidations
What if the insurance fund is depleted?
Ultimately if the insurance fund is depleted and unhealthy positions cannot be closed efficiently against the book or backstop liquidity, ADL counterparties may incur losses during auto-deleveraging events in order to maintain the solvency of the exchange and avoid socialized losses.
Depletion of the insurance fund is rare and reflects extreme conditions; the exchange is responsible for sizing the fund to absorb stress events under expected operating conditions.
