# How does the collateral loan work? Do I need to manage it?

The loan is automatic in both directions. It's created only when the account's USDG falls short of its margin needs, and it unwinds as those needs shrink.

Interest accrues continuously on any outstanding balance and is added to it.

Loans can also be settled manually at any time: open **Margin** in the perpetuals view and select **Settle Loan**.
