# How are Stock Tokens different from traditional stocks?

Stock Tokens trade on-chain and non-custodially, are gasless and fractional, and settle in seconds, held in the trader's wallet rather than a brokerage account.

The trade-offs relative to a registered share include the absence of voting rights, with dividends delivered through the token's value rather than as separate cash, and dependence on redemption or on-chain liquidity to realize value.

Stock Tokens also involve the traditional trade-offs that come with self-custody, including the need to maintain security over your wallet’s private keys.
