# What is a reduce-only order?

An order marked as reduce-only can only decrease an existing position - it will never flip or add to an open position.

If it would increase the position (or the position is closed), the order is cancelled.

The reduce-only flag provides traders with a safe way to take profit or stop out a position, and is available on limit, market, and stop / TP-SL orders.
