# What is the initial margin requirement?

The collateral needed to open a position - position notional divided by your selected leverage. It varies by market based on liquidity and volatility.

Outside regular trading hours it rises +50%, so an off-hours position requires more collateral to open than the same one opened during regular hours.

Maintenance margin doesn't change off-hours, so existing positions and the liquidation prices of positions aren't affected.
